THAMES TROPHY - 20/09/2009 For the first time since 2004 the trip to London for the Thames Trophy competition was back on the calendar. The five year break did not make much difference to the final result, with Lenny Wells taking the trophy for the fourth time in a row. Eight anglers made the trip to the Laleham stretch and most struggled to find fish. Lenny fished a waggler at three rod lengths using hemp and caster, initially catching gudgeon before some decent roach finally arrived later on boosting the final total to 6lb 14oz. Vince Collins finished second with the bulk of his 2lb 10oz catch consisting of a superb 1lb 8oz perch taken on the maggot feeder. This match was also the final round of the Transport Trophy. Competition leader Phil Harris wrapped up the title with a fifth place finish on the day. A fourth place finish for Paul Harding was also enough to clinch the runner-up spot. In the Overall Club Championship Phil claimed his third Club Champion crown in a row. Phil held off a late season challenge from eventual runner-up Bruce Barnett, only failing to score pints in a single match throughout the season.
