Transport Trophy Round 2 - 15/06/2008
This match was originally booked on Leggetts Lake but due to a problem at the venue was
switched to New Pond. Weather conditions were favourable for this venue, being
overcast but warm, the lake was flat calm for most of the match
In first place was Bruce Barnett. Bruce fished the whole match using pellet waggler and
baited Chum Mixer. He only managed two fish but this was enough to give him the
biggest fish with a common carp of 10lb 9oz. In second place was Lenny Wells. He
fished for carp for two hours but with no success switched to a waggler and maggot. This
was a gamble but it paid off because he managed to bag an excellent 14lb 14oz of roach and
picked up 5 points.
Phil Harris had won all of the first three matches and was always going to be the man to
beat. With three hours gone he had caught nothing when all of a sudden, whack, his rod got
pulled into the lake. This required some lightning quick reactions and Phil just managed
to grab his rod and amazingly landed the fish, a 7lb carp on corn and bomb. He only caught
one more after that, baiting floating breadflake but it was enough to give him third place
with 11lb 14oz and 4 points. Phil Harris has a clear lead in both the Transport Trophy and the Overall Championship.
