Roger Unwin Memorial Trophy - 25/05/2008
The Roger Unwin Memorial Trophy was held at Snake Lake in Newdigate and doubled up as
the first round of the Transport Trophy.
After a grey and overcast start the weather improved and the sun shone for the rest of the
match. The venue proved to be full of small 'stockie' carp and getting through to
the venues bigger fish proved to be a problem. Phil Harris drew the golden peg and
fished an excellent match. Alternating between long pole to the island and short
pole in the margins he amassed a 32lb 6oz total of carp to 2lb, using either corn or
maggot hookbaits. The win made it two out of two for the season and he picked up the £75
golden peg pot.
A close second was Barry Wheeler who targeted the bigger fish using a large ball of
liquidised luncheon meat. Barry finished with an excellent 31lb 12oz total and
picked up 5 points for the second place finish
Phil Harris picked up 6 points for the win and consolidated his early lead in the Overall Championship table.
