Newpond Trophy - 06/07/2008

This was the first match this season where it has rained and boy, did it rain, non stop, heavy and accompanied by gale force winds.  Of late this lake seems to switch off for matches and once again it was a struggle to get a bite.

In first place was Terry Forrest.  Terry used the Method Feeder combined with the unusual bait cocktail of corn and dead maggot.  This proved to be a good choice because he was well ahead of his nearest rival, with five carp and a few skimmers for a 30lb 8oz total.  Second place went to Paul Hersey who also chose the Method Feeder.   Paul baited with 'pop up corn' and this tactic bagged him two carp plus a few silvers for 13lb 2oz and five points.

In third place was Terry Archer, using the Method Feeder baiting meat.  Five minutes after the start Terry caught a skimmer which gave him confidence,  but then had to wait until five minutes before the end for fish number two.  It was worth the wait because he landed a carp of 10lb 8oz which gave him the biggest fish kitty.  Terry's total was 11lb 4oz and he also picked up 4 points.  Phil Harris picked up three points for fourth and now has a big lead in both the Home Championship and the Overall Club Championship competitions.

The Junior Trophy was won by Ryan Dennet. He came to the match prepared to catch carp and after hooking and losing three caught a few roach which were enough to land him the trophy.
