Junior Teach In - 08/06/2008
This years Teach In was the best yet (although we still find a lack of support from
senior helpers). We had 26 kids turn up which was the most so far. They all caught fish and
some had the fantastic experience of reeling in a large carp that Phil Harris had hooked
on the bomb, once hooked he passed the rod to the youngster for them to land (with a
little help from Phil). The Environment Agency once again supplied two professional
coaches who were of course an excellent bonus on the day.
We had a Fly Fishing expert who took the kids over to the field ( a safe area) to show
them how to cast a fly.
Some quality roach were caught including a 2 pounder (fish of a lifetime?).There were
carp, tench and even a two pound pike caught.
As always for our Teach In it was a glorious sunny day. The EA coaches were very
impressed with the attendance rate and the way the day was organised.
The club would like to thank Steve Mugridge from Jack Frost Tackle for supplying all the
bait and some items of tackle to give out on the day.We would also like to thank Paul
Maloney Of The Carp Shop, Horley for donating some excellent tackle items including two
Mitchell reels plus vouchers for spending in his shop.
Lastly we would like to thank the Environment Agency's John Sutton for helping out on the
day, providing the Teaching Coaches and also for donating the whips and tackle to give out
to the ' up and coming Bob Nudds'.Event organiser Lenny Wells was full of praise for the
way it all went and hopes that next years is as successful as this one was ( although this
will take some beating).
