XMAS Competition - 16/12/2007 After several weeks of unseasonably mild weather, heavy overnight frosts were the norm in the week running up to the match. As expected the fishing was severely affected with many of the twenty anglers competing failing to get a bite. Phil Harris went into the match with a slender one point lead in the race to be crowned overall club champion. His nearest rival Nick Ardley drew peg 31, a noted flyer in the summer months, whilst Phil drew peg 9 closer to the favoured deeper water. Phil fished maggot to catch silver fish steadily throughout the day to put an 8lb catch on the scales. With very few silverfish present at the top end of the lake, Nick went all out for carp, finally hooking one in the second half of the match. Unfortunately the fish found the weed and Nick was unable to get the fish to the net. This left Phil to claim victory on the day and the Club Championship title. The win for Phil also secured the Home Championship. 20 Anglers - Total Weight 43lb 3oz
