Newpond Trophy - 16/05/2004 The first match of the year at the Newpond produced some good weights and a new 5 hour match record. For once the winner was not pegged at the far end amongst the weed, with the top three anglers all drawn together in the mid 20's. Bruce Barnett won the match from peg 24, fishing a pole between the two sets of lily pads. Using corn and luncheon meat baits, Bruce weighed in 32lb 4oz of fish to take an early lead in both the Transport Trophy and Overall Club Championship. Phil Harris was second from the next peg, finishing with 20lb 2oz. In the Junior match there was a tie for first place between Matt Hibbs and David Casey both catching 7lb. 24 Anglers - Total Weight 161lb 13oz
