XMAS Competition - 21/12/2003 The weather was very seasonal for this match. Ther was no snow , but a biting northerly wind was blowing down the lake. No one fancied drawing the pegs on the dam wall facing into the wind. As it turned out the fish had moved down into this deeper water and Pete Thompson, drawn on unfancied peg 17, had several carp fishing a feeder and red maggot for a 20lb 10oz total. Second on the day was Paul Shepherd using similar tactics for 15lb 3oz. This was the final round of the home championship with the trophy race between two anglers. Both current leader Barry Wheeler and second place Nick Ardley were struggling at the halfway stage. Both managed to find some fish in the second half of the match and it was close at the weigh-in. In the end Barry's catch was enough for third place and the trophy by a narrow 7oz margin. 15 Anglers - Total Weight 78lb 4oz
