CRAWLEY vs COPTHORNE (Tilgate - 07/10/2001) The home leg of the inter-club fixture against Copthorne held at Tilgate was also the third round of the Transport Trophy and the Junior Jarvis cup match. Crawley won the fixture easily with a total weight of 84lb 15oz to Copthorne's 30lb 10oz. Crawley's large winning margin was due in large part to a new five hour venue record of 41lb 2oz. Karl King took this impressive haul of bream from Peg 14 with feeder and red maggot tactics. The same combination accounted for the second highest individual weight on the day, 14lb 7oz, taken by Phil Harris who continues with his excellent form this season. The five points extended his lead at the top of the Transport Trophy table, and only a disaster in the final round will prevent him taking the title. The Junior trophy went to Craig Whittaker with 4lb 13oz from peg 8 that included a small carp. In the overall Club Championship Phil Harris closed the gap on leader Lenny Wells but is still four points behind with only two rounds remaining. |
