NEWPOND TROPHY - 27/05/2001 Seventeen Senior anglers and two Juniors competed for the Newpond Trophies and points at the first round of the CAS Championship. On a blustery and cool day, Barry Wheeler was the only angler who managed to land one of the venues carp, which made up the two thirds of his winning 9lb 8oz total. The Junior winner was Craig Whittaker who put together a 1lb 12oz bag of small fish to claim the trophy. Senior runner up was Pete Sharpe. Fishing fancied peg 27, Pete lost four carp before taking two good bream and a small tench. The tench was the first reported catch of one of the recently stocked tench and crucians. Hopefully more of these fish will begin to show over the summer. Third place was claimed by Simon Clark who again had two good bream on the feeder. Fourth was Match Secretary Lenny Wells who worked hard to take over a hundred small fish for 6lb 8oz.
